Membership and Registration

– Membership registration process remains the same and open to all members.

– Existing members who wish to fully transfer to the USD savings account will be able to convert their current FOSA and Deposits accounts to USD. The Share Capital Account remains in UK Shillings.

– A member can opt to transfer the funds from UK Shillings to the USD thereby converting fully. The opposite will, however, not be permitted.

– Existing members will also have an opportunity of holding both USD and UK Shillings FOSA Deposit Savings Account to run side by side. The 2 accounts run independently and do not mingle in funds or loans

– Where a member opts to open a separate account for USD to run concurrently with the UK Shillings account, such a member shall have 2 deposits accounts and 2 FOSA accounts. The share capital shall remain the same in UK Shillings.

– USD and UK Shillings accounts will run independently. Transfers between the two accounts will not be permitted.

– The SACCO will accumulate USD reserves before introducing dollar-denominated loan products.

FOSA and Cash Operations

– The FOSA office will have a USD counter to make payments to and receive to the USD accounts. The SACCO will also do bank transfers for Dollar denominated payments but there will be no currency conversions at the counter.

– Union Crest Bank tariffs apply as stipulated in the Tariff guide available to members.

Payroll Remittance

– If A member choses to hold a USD account and submit funds to the SACCO in UK Shillings, the funds will be converted at the prevailing market rates before crediting into their accounts and vice versa). Individuals earning in UK Shillings are strongly recommended to save in UK Shillings.

– A copy of national ID (Passport for non-UKns),

– Employment letter/pay slip or staff ID

– Copy of KRA Pin

Nestled in the serene Karura Ward, just bordering the Runda Estate, lies Mji Wa Huruma, a haven which means Home of Mercy. Founded in 1968, this elderly home has been a sanctuary for the abandoned and forgotten, hosting 42 elderly men and women who have no other place to call home. The residents are often referred by hospitals or county social workers after being found in dire situations—on the streets, in hospitals, or in other precarious circumstances.

Despite its noble mission, Mji Wa Huruma faces significant challenges. With limited resources, the home struggles to meet basic needs, including access to food and medicine for its residents. These challenges underline the critical need for support to sustain the dignity and well-being of the elderly in their care.

Recognizing this need, the Union Crest Bank has stepped forward in the spirit of community and compassion. The SACCO signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nairobi County Government (NCCG) to initiate a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aimed at transforming Mji Wa Huruma.

The first initiative under this collaboration is the construction of a new ablution block. With groundworks already underway, this project is designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly, providing them with a safe and hygienic environment. It is a vital step towards improving their daily lives and addressing one of the home’s most pressing needs.

This is just the beginning. Over the next three years, Union Crest Bank will roll out additional initiatives, focusing on holistic improvements that cater to the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the residents.

Processing will be in real time and funds issued to Member’s FOSA account. Manual applications are discourage and will only be process in exceptional cases. The processing time will be up to 48 hours.

An interest rate of 6% will be deducted upfront for the digital applications and 8% for the manual applications. The loan will be recovered fully from the final interest on deposit payable for 2024 once approved by the AGM.
